November 5 * 7 pm. In Tahoma's Shadow Poetry Reading.

Final Reading of Poets Collected in the Anthology In Tahoma's Shadow to Take Place Thursday, November 5, at King's Books

The last of three readings showcasing the work of poets collected in the recently published anthology In Tahoma's Shadow will be held at 7 p.m. this Thursday, November 5, at King’s Books, 218 St. Helen’s Avenue, Tacoma. The event, which is being held in conjunction with the Tacoma Arts Commission's Art at Work month, is free and open to the public.

Poets scheduled to read include Allen Braden, Karen Haevner, Laura Jensen, William Kupinse, Lynn Martin, Kevin Miller, Tad Monroe, Kay Mullen, Jean Musser, Paul Nelson, Elijah Muied, Brittany Short, Tammy Robacker, Emilie Rommel Shimkus, Tim Sherry, Josie Emmons Turner, Elliot Trotter, and others.

Striving to represent the diverse voices and experiences that characterize Tacoma, In Tahoma’s Shadow collects the work of 75 local poets in a volume of 150 pages. The title In Tahoma’s Shadow refers to the original name of Mt. Rainier, and thus invokes the region’s history—particularly the history of the pre-settler tribes, who created complex civilizations while maintaining stewardship of the natural environment in ways that modern society may perhaps one day learn to emulate if it is to survive.

In Tahoma’s Shadow is available for purchase at $9.95 at King’s Books in Tacoma and online at www.kingsbookstore.com. All proceeds from sales of the book support the future publication of emerging Northwest poets. Compiled, edited, and published by Exquisite Disarray Publishing, a newly formed non-profit organization intended to highlight the Northwest’s literary arts community, the anthology was edited by William Kupinse and Tammy Robacker.

In Tahoma’s Shadow was made possible by generous funding from the Tacoma Arts Commission, and additional support from the University of Puget Sound, the board of Exquisite Disarray Publishing, and Urban Grace: The Downtown Church.
